Blackwarren Books is thrilled to announce the open call for submissions for our annual Halloween anthology, Samhain Secrets: The Witching Hour. This anthology will feature stories set in the eerie and enchanting world of The Argent City, specifically occurring on Halloween night from midnight to 2am, known as "The Witching Hour."
About the Anthology:
Samhain Secrets: The Witching Hour invites authors to explore the mysterious and macabre events that unfold during the darkest hours of Halloween night. A central feature of the anthology is "The Witching Hour," a radio show hosted by a vampire DJ that primarily plays Goth music. Against the backdrop of haunting melodies, supernatural creatures roam the streets, and the city is shrouded in an atmosphere of magic and menace.
Submission Guidelines:
Genre: Urban Fantasy and Horror
Setting: The Argent City, on Halloween night, from midnight to 2am
Central Feature: "The Witching Hour" radio show, hosted by a vampire DJ
Theme: Stories may explore themes of darkness, mystery, and the supernatural. While a vampire serial killer is active during the given time period, references to the killer are required but do not need to factor into the plot of each story.
Protagonists: All protagonists must identify somewhere on the LGBTIQAP+ spectrum.
Length: Stories must be between 5,000 and 20,000 words.
Primers: Primers on the setting will be made available upon request.

Submissions should be sent to submissions@blackwarrenbooks.com with the subject line "Samhain Secrets: The Witching Hour Submission - [Title of Story]."
Please include a brief cover letter introducing yourself and providing any relevant publication credits or writing experience.
Attach your story as a Word document or PDF file.
Multiple submissions are allowed, but please limit submissions to two stories per author.
Payment:
Payment will be provided for accepted stories on a scale based on word count.
Stories between 5,000 and 10,000 words: $100
Stories between 10,000 and 15,000 words: $125
Stories between 15,000 and 20,000 words: $150
Payment will be made upon publication.
Submission Deadline:
The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2024. Late submissions will not be considered.
